About

The Mission

Our mission is to eliminate food-insecurity while reconnecting BIPOC communities back to the Earth. We will reclaim ancestral wisdom to grow food and uplift our communities so that they thrive. We understand that connection to the Earth can heal our communities and we encourage people to reclaim their space in nature while recognizing that multiple calculated factors have led to environmental disparities that leave many of us without access to fresh, healthy food or green space.

To fight this, we are building a platform to educate and advise, with the goal of getting every household, no matter where, to be able to grow at least one thing they can eat - in the ground, in a pot, in a plastic takeout cup. We can no longer remain reliant on intentionally exploitative systems, and we strive to uphold eco agricultural practices that have been central to indigenous and native communities long before colonization swept the globe.

What We Believe

We don’t want to just survive, we want to thrive. We know that to do that, our communities must be fed. We must be able to control the quality of the food we feed ourselves and our families. We cannot rely on those running exploitative systems to take care of us, so we are paving the way for reconnection with the Earth and independent food production on every scale.

What We Do

Hekima centers the Earth and those who have been oppressed for the exploitation of its resources. At Hekima we grow food because food security is at the core of any thriving society, and abandoning methods of farming that attempt to force the natural world to bend to our will must happen to ensure the survival of not just our species, but our planet.

We connect BIPOC communities to resources to enable them to grow food regardless of location. We provide visual and written content for learning, as well as gardening, small scale farming and food forest consulting and design on a sliding scale. We are developing a Free Seed Program to ensure everyone can become food-secure.
